Why I Picked This Up
I love a good time loop book and this one sounded amazing. Plus I’d read The Most Famous Girl in the World and gave it four stars.
My Thoughts
Laia Grace starts her day by posting her morning routine. She meets a fellow influencer for smoothies and content creation, then gets ready for a big event that evening. It’s her perfect day. The strange part is that she doesn’t seem to remember much about any of her other days.
She also notices that people sometimes glitch when she asks too many questions. Then one day, after a homeless man dumps a drink on her, she meets Noah. He tells her she’s living inside the algorithm, and they need to find a way out.
The story really gets going when Laia Grace and Noah pair up to escape the time loop. The relationship they build becomes central to the story. In the real world, they both seem to have pretty lonely existences. Noah has lost his job, while most of Laia’s relationships are with other influencers.
I thought the author did a good job showing what a world without connection can be like. She creates this time loop and shows just how lonely you can be in a city that is full of people. I enjoyed watching Noah and Laia explore the city in their quest to catch the algorithm.
Some of my favorite scenes were with Harlow. She has no idea she’s part of the algorithm, and she is so loud and over the top that she brings some much-needed levity to a story dealing with a fairly serious idea.
Overall, this was another four-star read for me. I love stories that dig into social media and influencer culture, and adding a time loop and a little romance made this one work especially well for me.
