Yikes! I’m not sure what I expected, but my quick blurb would be: woman wants a baby and wishes for it down a demon well.

What begins as a young woman making a home for an unappreciative husband spirals into some demon babymaking. There’s a lot about this book that had me wanting to close my eyes and say NOPE! But then there’s a lot that had me going OMG WHAT AM I READING?!?!

For most of the book, I found Camille likable but oddly naive. I really hoped she’d figure her stuff out and not get caught. At first, I thought she might go the way of Best Offer Wins, obsessing over another influencer’s life, and BOY WAS I WRONG. Just when I thought I had the book figured out, there’d be another little jab of shock and awe.

What I didn’t like was Graham, her husband, and how obviously awful he was. They moved an hour away from their old home, and then he didn’t “let” her get a car? She was essentially trapped at home every day he went into the office, yet he wasn’t exactly rushing home to spend time with her. It felt like he married her to be his housekeeper and was more upset when she wasn’t rushing to do his bidding than anything else.

The man didn’t even notice the whole demon spawn situation.

Seriously, Graham was garbage from day one. So was Camille’s dad, who wasn’t even really in the book but still managed to make an impression through the way she thought about him. This woman was alone way too much.

It’s no wonder the demon well called to her.

Should you read it? Yes, if a trad wife who desperately wants a baby plus some increasingly unhinged horror sounds interesting to you. Maybe skip it if body horror and some deeply gross moments are a hard no.
