I normally read over 100 books a year and read nearly every genre. My hobbies include reading, finding new reads, buying books, and figuring out where on my shelves I have space for them. I enjoy browsing Kindle deals and buying books I already own in print. Yes, it’s a real problem. No, I won’t stop. I also love snarky bookmarks, and while I have a lot, I think the limit does not exist for owning too many.

Why I Started This Blog

I’ve always wanted to write, but I don’t feel creative enough for fiction. So instead, I decided to try writing book reviews and musings on my bookish life. It seemed easier to start with books since I’m already reading them.

After years of watching videos, I thought, why not add that at the same time? You can find me at @beyondthebookblurb on TikTok and Instagram.

What Do I Read?

Pretty much everything.

I tend to read more romance and mysteries than literary fiction. I gravitate toward books with fast-moving plots and characters that pull you in. I love a good space opera, but I also love a small-town romance. I’m a sucker for a reality-TV-based book and rich people behaving badly. If it’s a memoir about a political campaign, you might find that on my shelf. And if I’m super stressed, I read cozy mysteries like they’re my job.

What Do I Look for in a Book?

I love characters who are unlikable because I want to know why they are the worst. Banter will save a book, especially if it makes me laugh out loud. I’m too prudish for some sex scenes and yet will read all of them, just maybe not in public.

I don’t mind suspending disbelief as long as the premise is interesting and I can see the vision. A three-star book is worth recommending, and that’s a hill I will die on. Just because I think it was okay, it might be someone else’s favorite read.
